In the bowl of your stand mixer with the dough hook attachment, add warm water, yeast, sugar and stir. For yeast activation, let sit for about 10 minutes until foamy.
Add flour, baking powder, salt and olive oil to the yeast mixture. Turn mixer on medium speed and knead for about 5-7 minutes until ball of dough forms around the hook.
Transfer dough to a lightly greased bowl and cover for about 1.5 hours or until dough doubles in size.
Transfer dough to a lightly floured surface and form into a rectangle. Cut dough long, skinny logs about 1 inch thick and 5 inches long. (see photo above for reference). Cover with towel and let rise another 30 minutes.
While dough rises, preheat oven to 400 degrees.
Mix minced garlic in with your melted butter.
Transfer breadsticks to a parchment lined baking sheet and baste with the garlic butter.
Place breadsticks in the oven and bake for about 13-15 minutes until lightly golden.
Remove from oven and sprinkle with fresh chopped basil. ENJOY!
