Restaurant Style Hash Browns - Crisp and delicious restaurant style homemade hash browns are so easy to make and are the perfect breakfast side dish! Pair with fried eggs, fresh fruit, bacon and more.

You are going to love these crispy homemade hash browns! I don't know about you but I love golden hash browns dipped in ketchup and hot sauce with hot fried eggs and toast.

This recipe is so easy to make and tastes just like the hash browns you get on your plate when eating at your favorite breakfast joint. We served ours with fried eggs, sausage links and toasted bagels. Needless to say it was delicious!

Another great way to eat these hash browns is wrapped in a tortilla with scrambled eggs, peppers and bacon with salsa for a delicious breakfast burrito. You can also toss everything in a bowl for a yummy breakfast bowl topped with salsa and avocado.

This hash brown recipe serves about four people generously. If you are cooking for a crowd, simply double the recipe. You can also halve the recipe if you are just cooking for one or two people.

If you have leftovers, store completely cooled hash browns in a sealed container in the fridge for up to 2 days. Reheat on the stove over medium heat for a couple minutes on each side.

Here is everything you need to make restaurant style hash browns:

Large Russet Potatoes - You'll need three large russet potatoes, you can also use golden or red potatoes.

Salt - I almost always use sea salt but you can use whatever salt you have on hand.

Pepper - Fresh cracked black pepper or ground both work great.

Onion Powder - Onion powder adds a delicious flavor to the hash browns.

Garlic Powder - I recommend using garlic powder rather than fresh garlic in this recipe as fresh garlic would easily burn.

Butter - I use unsalted butter in this recipe, but you can also use salted butter. You can also substitute the butter for oil if you don't have butter on hand.

*All measurements and instructions listed below.

Tools you need to make hash browns at home from scratch:

    • Nonstick Skillet - To cook your hash browns in without them sticking to the pan.
    • Spatula - Easily flip your hash browns.
    • Large Mixing Bowl - To shred your hash browns into and then to strain the water and pat dry.
    • Grater - To grate you russet potatoes.
    • Mesh Strainer - To strain the water out of the potatoes.
    • Paper Towels - For patting the potatoes from any extra water.

How to make Restaurant Style Hash Browns:

Start by grating peeled potatoes into a large bowl using the large grate side. Cover grated potatoes with water and let soak for about 15-20 minutes to remove some of the starchiness.

Next, strain potatoes using a mesh strainer and press to get as much water out of the potatoes. Then, using paper towels, pat potatoes dry. Sprinkle potatoes evenly with seasonings and toss to mix.

Heat a large nonstick skillet over medium-high heat and add ½ tablespoon of butter. Place half of the hash browns in the hot skillet and press gently to spread evenly in pan. Let cook for about 3-4 minutes until bottom is nice and golden, then carefully flip hash browns over. Cook for another 3-4 minutes until bottom is golden. Repeat with remaining potatoes.

Serve hash browns with your favorite breakfast dishes. Enjoy!
