We love to serve these biscuits with our favorite homemade Breakfast Sausage Gravy. They are also delicious topped with crispy chicken for a yummy fried chicken biscuit sandwich or with eggs as a yummy breakfast sandwich.

This recipe makes twelve two inch biscuits. If you prefer larger biscuits, you can use a larger biscuit cutter. This recipe can also be doubled and cooked in batches.

Ingredients You Need To Make Fluffy Homemade Biscuits:

All-Purpose Flour - We typically use a quality unbleached all-purpose flour.

Baking Powder - Baking powder is needed to make homemade biscuits. This will assist in the rising process.

Salt - We typically use Himalayan or sea salt. You can use your favorite cooking salt or whatever you have on hand.

Sugar - Regular white cane sugar works best in these biscuits. The sugar will give the biscuit a very light sweetness that compliments the butter perfectly.

Butter - Very cold salted butter is best in this recipe. You can use unsalted as well if that's what you have on hand.

Milk - Whole milk works best in this recipe but you can also use half and half for a richer biscuit.

Honey - We use a teaspoon of honey mixed with butter to baste the tops of the biscuits prior to baking. This gives the biscuits the most golden beautiful color and a hint of sweetness you will love.

    How To Make Homemade Biscuits:

    Preheat oven to 450 degrees.

In a large bowl, whisk together all-purpose flour, salt, baking powder and sugar.

Cut in cold butter with pastry blender, fork or fingers until pea sized lumps form in flour.

Pour in milk and stir until combined.

Turn dough over onto lightly floured surface.

Press into a rectangle about one inch thick. Fold dough into threes - like an envelope. Press dough back down into a one inch triangle. Repeat this step three times. Finish by pressing dough into a ¾ inch thick rectangle.

Use a 2-inch biscuit cutter to cut 12 biscuits or a 3-inch biscuit cutter to cut about 8 biscuits.

Place biscuits in fridge to chill while you prepare the honey butter and the oven heats.

In a small bowl, add butter and honey. Place in the microwave for about 10 seconds to melt.

Arrange biscuits in a lightly oiled 10" or 12" cast iron skillet (no need to preheat). Or arrange the biscuits very close together on a lined or oiled baking sheet (keeping them close together will help them rise tall). Baste tops of the biscuits with honey butter. Bake for about 14-16 minutes until tops are golden.

Allow biscuits to cool slightly before transferring to a cooling rack. Enjoy warm!
