Perfect Homemade Hamburger Buns - Soft and fluffy homemade buns are surprisingly easy to make at home! These buns are perfect for cheeseburgers, pulled pork sandwiches, crispy chicken sandwiches, and more!

If you are looking for a fairly easy hamburger bun recipe that actually tastes like a real delicious hamburger bun then look no further. This bun recipe is light and fluffy and perfect for any burger!
Homemade buns taste so much better than store bought buns and are well worth the effort. If you have a stand mixer, then you are in luck because this recipe just got that much easier! But, you can definitely knead this recipe by hand as well.
For the buns, you can sprinkle the tops with sesame seeds like I did or you can use poppy seeds, "everything but the bagel" seasoning, or you can leave them plain. Another great idea is to sprinkle tops with very finely grated onion for a delicious onion bun.
Ingredients you need to make the best Homemade Hamburger Buns:
- All-Purpose Flour
- Active Dry Yeast
- Water
- Milk
- Baking Powder
- Salt
- Sugar
- Egg - Yolk and egg white divided
- Sesame Seeds
Tools to have on hand:
- baking sheet – Baking the potato buns.
- cooling rack – Cooling off the buns after the oven.
- measuring cups and spoons
- mixer – To knead your dough, or you can use your hands.
- pastry sheet – A nice big floured surface to make it easy to shape the buns.
How to make the perfect Homemade Hamburger Buns:
Step 1: Place warm milk and water in the bowl of your stand mixer. Sprinkle the yeast on top and let sit for about 10 minutes until yeast begins to foam.
Step 2: In a separate bowl, combine flour, sugar, salt, baking powder.
Step 3: Add egg yolk to the wet ingredients. Begin kneading the flour into the wet ingredients on low speed for about 10 minutes until you have a soft round ball of dough. Transfer dough to a lightly oiled bowl and cover with plastic wrap or a clean towel. Let rise for about 1 ½ hours or until doubled in size.
Step 4: Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. On a lightly floured clean surface, cut dough into 6 equal sized pieces. Then, gently form smooth round balls by pinching dough together at the bottom making the tops round and smooth. Transfer to a baking sheet, cover with a clean towel and let rise another hour or so until dough has doubled in size.
Step 5: Preheat oven to 375 degrees. In a small bowl, whisk egg white to loosen. Brush the tops of the buns with egg wash. Sprinkle tops with sesame seeds (optional). Transfer buns to the oven and bake for about 14-17 minutes until tops are golden. Remove buns from the oven and transfer to a cooling rack.
