Frisco Burgers - The San Francisco style Cheeseburger has arrived on my blog and for a good reason. That's because it is down right delicious! It's a juicy cheeseburger layered with grilled onions, creamy burger sauce, lettuce and tomato on a hot grilled slice of sourdough
Ingredients you need to make homemade San Francisco Style Burgers:
- Ground Beef - You'll need about a pound of ground beef. This will give you four ¼ lb. ground beef burgers. I recommend using a fat ratio of 85/15 or high so your burger doesn't shrink too much!
- Sourdough Bread - You can use any sourdough you prefer! I love the brand "San Luis Sourdough."
- Cheddar Cheese - I used sharp cheddar in this recipe, you can use your favorite cheese!
- Tomato - You'll need one tomato sliced. I used a roma tomato but you can use any tomato you prefer.
- Romaine Lettuce- I like romaine for this sandwich but you can also use iceburg.
- Red Onion - For the grilled onions. You can also use white or yellow onion.
- Butter - You'll need butter for the bread and grilling the onions.
- Ketchup - For the burger sauce.
- Mayonnaise - For the burger sauce.
- Sriracha - Adds a nice spice to the sauce - you can skip this ingredient if you don't like too much heat.
- Mustard - I used yellow mustard but you can also use grainy or dijon.
- Garlic Powder - Just a pinch for the burger sauce.
- Salt + Pepper - To season beef patties and burger sauce.
- Worcestershire Sauce - For the burger patties. Adds a delicious flavor!
How to make Frisco Burgers:
To Make the Burger Sauce: In a small bowl, mix ketchup, mayo, sriracha, mustard, garlic powder and a dash of salt and pepper. Cover and place in the fridge until your burgers are ready.
For the Grilled Onions: In a small skillet over low heat add sliced red onions and butter. Stir to coat onions and let cook on low for about 15 minutes until onions are cooked through and begin to lightly caramelize.
For the Burgers: Heat a grill pan or skillet to medium-high heat. Form four patties with your hands. Salt and pepper each side of your burgers and drizzle with about a teaspoon of worcestershire sauce each. Transfer burgers to the hot pan. Cook for about 4-5 mins until juices start to show on top of your patties. Flip the burgers over and cook for another couple minutes. Place cheese on top of each patty and let melt. When done, remove from heat.
For the Bread: Lightly butter your bread on each side and place on hot grill pan for about 1 minute on each side until nice and and grilled.
Assemble your Frisco Burger: Slather each slice of sourdough bread with the burger sauce. Top with a cheeseburger patty, grilled onions, tomato and romaine lettuce. Serve with your favorite side dishes. Enjoy!
