Blueberry Banana Bread – Best ever moist banana bread recipe with a burst of blueberry flavor makes for the perfect breakfast treat. Serve sliced banana bread lightly toasted with a smear of butter for perfection.

Banana bread has always been one of my absolute favorite breakfast treats because it is so easy to make and always delicious! Sprinkle in some blueberries and you have the perfect slice.

Serve this delicious Blueberry Banana Bread with a hot cup of coffee, your favorite cup of tea and an ice cold glass of milk! You really cannot go wrong! It also makes an excellent treat to bring to get togethers and into the office for a staff treat.

Ingredients you need to make homemade banana bread:

Bananas – You’ll need 2-3 very ripe bananas! The riper the better.

White Granulated Sugar – White granulated sugar or cane sugar both work in this recipe.

Brown Sugar – Dark or light brown sugar both work great in this recipe.

All-Purpose Flour – I used unbleached white all-purpose flour. It is an extremely versatile flour perfect for baking bread. You can also use bleached white flour or bread flour.

Baking Soda – To assist in the rising process.

Egg –  Helps to hold everything together and to increase richness of the bread.

Butter – Salted or usalted butter both work great.

Ground Cinnamon – Adds a nice warm spice to the bread!

Ground Ginger – Adds a delicious flavor to the bread – If you don’t have this on hand you can omit.

Blueberries – I used frozen blueberries but you can also use fresh.

Vanilla Extract – Pure vanilla extract is best.

Tools to have on hand:

  • Bread Loaf Pan – A standard sized bread pan.
  • Mixing Bowl – You’ll need two mixing bowls to make the batter.
  • Large Mixing Spoon – For mixing the banana bread batter.
  • Measuring Spoons and Cups – To properly measure all of your ingredients!

How to make the Best Moist Blueberry Banana Bread:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

In a bowl, mix flour, cinnamon, ginger, and baking soda and set aside.

In a large bowl, mash the bananas. Add melted butter, brown sugar and white sugar and mix until well combined. Mix in egg and vanilla extract.

Sprinkle in flour mixture and mix until well combined. Finally, gently fold in blueberries.

Pour banana bread mixture into a lightly buttered bread pan.

Transfer bread to the oven and bake for 50-55 minutes. Check on the banana bread at about 40 minutes and if the bread is getting very dark, cover with a piece of foil.

When done, remove bread from the oven and let cool slightly. Then, remove bread from baking dish and let finish cooling on a rack.

What other fruit can I use in banana bread?

You can use your favorite berry in this recipe – raspberries, blueberries, blackberries, strawberries, etc!

Another great idea is to sprinkle in some chocolate chips or your favorite chopped nuts. I love adding chopped walnuts or pecans to banana bread.

How to store homemade Banana Bread:

Bake banana bread as directed and allow to cool completely. Store in a piece of foil or storage bag on the counter for up to 2-3 days.

HOW TO FREEZE BANANA BREAD:

If you want to bake banana bread ahead of time and freeze it for a longer storage life, wrap banana bread tightly in plastic wrap and place in an airtight freezer bag for up to 3 months.

You can also slice the bread and wrap individual slices of bread with plastic wrap if you don’t want to thaw the whole loaf and instead want to eat one slice at a time.

To thaw banana bread: Pull banana bread out of the freezer and let come to room temperature. Slice and serve. Eat within 24 hours.

Ingredients
  

  • 3 Bananas very ripe
  • 1/2 cup White Granulated Sugar
  • 1/4 cup Brown Sugar
  • 1 3/4 cups All-Purpose Flour
  • 1 tsp Baking Soda
  • 1 Egg

  • 1 tsp Vanilla Extract

Notes

I recommend using frozen blueberries because they will hold their structure better and not sink to bottom of the bread while baking. However, if you only have fresh that’s totally fine! The flavor of the bread will be the same 🙂
