This is a small batch classic sugar cookie recipe and makes about 16 cookies. If you are cooking for a larger crowd, you can easily double or even triple this recipe.
Ingredients you need to make Soft Sugar Cookies:
- all purpose flour
- butter
- granulated sugar
- baking powder
- salt
- vanilla extract
- egg
Tools needed to make sugar cookies from scratch:
- stand mixer or hand mixer
- baking sheet
- cooling rack
- measuring cups and spoons
- parchment paper
- plastic wrap
How to make classic sugar cookies from scratch:
Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
Combine flour, salt and baking powder in a bowl and set aside.
In the bowl of your stand mixer, cream together butter and sugar over medium speed with your paddle attachment. Add vanilla and egg and beat until just combined.
Add flour mixture and beat over medium speed until combined.
Roll tablespoon sized balls of dough and place on a lightly greased or parchment paper lined baking sheet.
Bake for 9-11 minutes until lightly golden on the bottom. When done, a toothpick should run through the cookie clean. Transfer cookies to a cooling rack.
