Classic Sugar Cookies – A classic Christmas sugar cookie recipe perfect for holiday cookie decorating. Share these delicious soft and chewy sugar cookies at your upcoming Holiday gatherings.

JUMP TO RECIPE

This is a small batch classic sugar cookie recipe and makes about 16 cookies. If you are cooking for a larger crowd, you can easily double or even triple this recipe.

Tools needed to make sugar cookies from scratch:

  • stand mixer or hand mixer
  • baking sheet
  • cooling rack
  • measuring cups and spoons
  • parchment paper
  • plastic wrap

Here are the ingredients you need for this recipe:

  • all purpose flour
  • butter
  • granulated sugar
  • baking powder
  • salt
  • vanilla extract
  • egg

How to make classic sugar cookies from scratch:

Preheat oven to 375 degrees.

Combine flour, salt and baking powder in a bowl and set aside.

In the bowl of your stand mixer, cream together butter and sugar over medium speed with your paddle attachment. Add vanilla and egg and beat until just combined.

Add flour mixture and beat over medium speed until combined.

Roll tablespoon sized balls of dough and place on a lightly greased or parchment paper lined baking sheet.

Bake for 9-11 minutes until lightly golden on the bottom. When done, a toothpick should run through the cookie clean. Transfer cookies to a cooling rack.

Here are some of my favorite Holiday cookies for you to try:

  • Thumbprint Cookies with Strawberry Jam â€“ Soft and chewy Thumbprint Cookies with strawberry jam sprinkled with powdered sugar. These cookies exceeded my expectations!
  • Gingersnaps â€“ A classic holiday cookie recipe made with warm spices and molasses. With a crispy outer layer and slightly soft inner layer, these gingersnap cookies will transport you to Christmas morning.
  • Chocolate Sugar Cookies â€“ These Chocolate Sugar Cookies are soft and chewy perfection.
  • Chewy Thin Chocolate Chip Cookies – These chocolate chip cookies are thin, buttery, soft and chewy. In my opinion, there’s nothing better than a warm chocolate chip cookie dipped in cold milk!
