The first time I had a cream cheese wonton was at Panda Express and I fell immediately in love with those crunchy, creamy treats. Recreating them was a cinch and now I am excited I get to share the recipe with you! I serve my cream cheese wontons with a homemade sweet and spicy dipping sauce. These wontons make an excellent appetizer for the family or for a party. They also work great as a side dish!

Cream Cheese Wontons

makes 24

Ingredients:
  • 8oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1 egg
  • 1/8 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/8 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 tbsp minced white onion
  • 24 wonton wrappers (I used Nasoya, but any will do)
  • oil for frying
Dipping Sauce:
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1/2 tsp sriracha
  • 1 tsp brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp honey
  • 1/8 tsp sesame oil

Directions:
  1. In a small bowl, combine cream cheese, egg, garlic powder, minced onion, salt and sugar. Whisk until fluffy.
  2. To assemble the cream cheese wontons, place about 1 tbsp of the mixture in the center of a wonton wrapper. Lightly wet the edges of the wonton with water. Pinch close the four corners to meet together in the center. Seal edges tightly. Repeat with all 24 wontons. (See image above)
  3. Add oil to a saucepan about 3 inches high. Heat to medium-high heat, about 350 degrees.
  4. Add a few wontons at a time and let cook for about 1 minute or until golden. Remove wontons and place on a rack to cool. Repeat with all 24 wontons!
  5. To make the dipping sauce, whisk together all ingredients.
  6. Serve your cream cheese wontons with the dipping sauce. Enjoy!!
