I love to make my own applesauce at home from scratch because there are so many uses for it! You can scoop some into your breakfast yogurt, mix it into pancake batter, make applesauce muffins and so much more!

You can also use applesauce in savory dishes like on top of pork chops. This recipe will make about 2 cups of applesauce.

Ingredients You Need To Make Homemade Applesauce:

Apples - We use delicious red apples in our applesauce but you can use any apples! We use about two and a half pounds which is equivalent to 7-8 apples.

Water - Two cups of water used to boil the apples. The water is mashed into the applesauce when done, so don't use too much.

Cinnamon - We use about a half teaspoon of ground cinnamon. You can add more to taste.

Lemon Juice - Lemon juice helps the apples from turning brown and adds a nice pop of flavor to compliment the apples. You don't have to use lemon but I always do!

Optional Sweeteners - I don't typically sweeten my applesauce because the sweetness from the apples is good enough for me. However, I totally get wanting to sweeten yours! You can sweeten your applesauce with cane sugar, maple syrup or honey! Sweeten to taste.

Bring water to a low boil and cook for about 20-25 minutes until apples are very tender. Once done, let cool slightly.

Mash apples with a potato masher or carefully transfer to a food processor and blend until smooth.
