BBQ Bacon Wrapped Chicken Thighs – Seasoned chicken thighs wrapped in thick cut bacon, basted in a sweet sauce and then grilled to crisp perfection.

JUMP TO RECIPE

This recipe calls for two pounds of chicken which serves about four people. If you are cooking for a crowd, simply double or even triple the recipe.

The thighs are cooked on a gas barbecue over medium-low heat at 300 degrees. You can also use a charcoal grill using the same method. Try not to cook over direct flame to prevent the bacon from burning before the chicken is cooked through. You are looking for an internal temperature of 165-170 degrees.

Below, I linked some of my favorite side dishes to pair with this marvelous bacon wrapped chicken! You can even serve between two buns with ranch dressing for a scrumptious bacon chicken ranch sandwich. Yum!

Here’s why every household should have a meat thermometer:

  • Peace of mind! You never have to worry if your chicken or your pork is raw. Simply check the temperature and adjust cooking times.
  • Prevent over cooking meat. There is nothing worse than getting served a dry overcooked piece of meat. Get the temperature right by checking with a meat thermometer when you think your meat may be getting close to done. Don’t forget, meat will continue to cook even after you remove from heat.

Ingredients you need for this recipe:

  • Chicken Thighs – About two pounds.
  • Bacon – 4-8 slices of thick cut bacon.
  • Ketchup -Adds a real nice sweetness.
  • Mustard – Yellow or dijon.
  • Brown Sugar – The perfect sweetness with the bacon.
  • Black Pepper – Adds a nice peppery spice.
  • Salt
  • Garlic Powder
  • Toothpicks – To hold the bacon on the chicken thighs.

Tools needed for this recipe:

  • Grill
  • Meat Thermometer
  • Toothpicks
  • Tongs
  • Measuring Cups and Spoons

How to make BBQ Wrapped Bacon Chicken Thighs on the grill:

Season chicken with salt, pepper, and garlic powder.

In a small bowl, mix ketchup, mustard and brown sugar.

Wrap each chicken thigh with bacon securing with toothpicks.

Baste the bacon wrapped chicken with the ketchup mixture.

Heat grill to medium-low heat, add the chicken and close the lid.

Cook for about 7 minutes until bacon is crispy and chicken is golden. Flip chicken over and cook for another 5-7 minutes. Check internal chicken temperature to ensure it is at least 165 degrees.

Remove chicken from grill and enjoy!

Here are some tasty side dish ideas to serve with my grilled chicken:

  • BBQ Loaded Hasselback Potatoes
  • Baked Macaroni and Cheese
  • Classic American Potato Salad
