We served our Grilled Shishito Pepper Cheeseburgers with French fries. You can serve yours with your favorite grilling side dishes. I'll link some ideas for you below.

This recipe will make four burgers. If you are cooking for a larger crowd, simply double the recipe.

Notes On Ingredients For Shishito Pepper Cheeseburgers:

Ground Beef - We use one pound lean 90/10 ground beef in this recipe which will give you four quarter pound burgers. You can also use 85/15 fat ratio or what you have on hand. The leaner the meat, the less the burger will shrink while cooking.

Oil - Avocado or olive oil to grill your shishito peppers and onions on.

Shishito Peppers - These peppers have a delicious mild, slightly sweet and smoky flavor. Anaheim or hatch peppers can be used as a substitution.

Onion - One whole yellow or white onion for the grilled onions.

Brioche Burger Buns - We like using brioche buns because they are buttery and delicious. You can use your favorite type of hamburger bun.

Mayonnaise - Adds a delicious creamy flavor to the burger.

Steak Sauce - We use A1 steak sauce but you can use your favorite steak sauce.

Burger Seasoning - Salt + Black Pepper + Garlic Powder + Worcestershire Sauce.

Tools to have on hand for this recipe:

    • Grill - To grill your burgers, peppers and onions on and to lightly toast the buns.
    • Cutting Board - To chop and prepare the veggies.
    • Chef Knife - To chop and prepare the veggies.

How to make Shishito Pepper Cheeseburgers:

Divide ground beef into four equal burger patties. Careful not to overwork the meat. Season all sides with garlic powder, salt, pepper and Worcestershire sauce.

Slice onion into quarter inch thick rings.

Heat grill to medium-high heat and lightly oil. Once the grill is hot, carefully add onion rings and shishito peppers (stems removed). Grill onions and peppers until they are somewhat tender and have nice grill marks. Remove from grill.

Cook burgers for about 4-6 minutes on each side depending on doneness level you prefer. Add sliced havarti cheese and melt.

Lightly toast buns cut side down on the grill.

Assemble burgers by spreading mayo and steak sauce on the toasty buns. Top with cheeseburger patty, grilled onions and shishito peppers. Enjoy!

    Best Burger Side Dish Recipes:

Oven Steak Fries - With a very light crunch on the outside and soft potato center, these baked fries are mouth watering delicious. Dip your golden baked fries in ketchup or your favorite dipping sauce.

Simple Caesar Salad - My quick and easy caesar salad is made with homemade dressing, crunchy romaine, croutons and freshly shaved parmesan cheese.

Grilled Zucchini -  The most delicious zucchini seasoned with lemon juice, olive oil, salt and pepper makes the perfect BBQ side dish.

Creamy Macaroni Salad - Made with fresh peppers, onions, celery and pickle in a sweet creamy sauce.
