Shoestring Fries – Thin and crispy baked shoestring french fries make for a delicious side dish or appetizer! Serve with your favorite fry sauces.
This recipe is super simple and will be sure to cure your french fry cravings. They are also a great healthy alternative compared to a traditional fried french fry.
Shoestring fries are one of my favorite type of french fry to make because they are thin which almost always guarantees you are going to get a delicious crunchy end result. These fries are cut about a quarter inch thick verse a regular fry which is about a half inch thick.
Serve your shoestring fries with your favorite burgers and sandwiches. You can also serve them as an appetizer at a party and more. We served ours with my delicious Big Mac Sliders for a fun dinner full of appetizers.
These would also go amazingly with my brand new Fried Chicken Slider recipe. I will link some of my favorite recipes to serve with these fries for you below!
This recipe makes about 3 cups of cooked fries which serves about 4 people or so. If you are cooking for a large crowd, simple double the recipe.
Ingredients you need to make shoestring fries:
Russet Potatoes – You’ll need about three large russet potatoes.
Salt – I always use sea salt in my recipes, but you can use any salt you have on hand.
Garlic Powder – Garlic powder (not garlic salt) adds a delicious flavor to the fries.
Onion Powder – Onion powder adds a delicious flavor to the fries.
Canola Oil – You can use canola, vegetable, olive or avocado oil.
Tools to have on hand for Shoestring Fries:
- Baking Sheet – You’ll need a baking sheet to bake your fries on.
- Parchment Paper – To prevent your fries from sticking to the sheet.
- Mixing Bowl – Two large mixing bowls will be needed for soaking fries and tossing fries in seasonings.
- Measuring Cups + Spoons – To properly measure your ingredients.
How to make my delicious crispy Shoestring Fries:
Start cutting potatoes into shoestring fries by laying potato flat on your cutting board. Cut the potato into equal slices about 1/4 inch thick. Then, take each of those slices and cut again into 1/4″ thick fries. Repeat with all three potatoes.
Place fries in a bowl of water to soak for 20 minutes.
In the meantime, preheat oven to 475 degrees.
While potatoes are soaking combine seasonings in a small bowl.
Drain water from potatoes and pat them dry. Toss potatoes into the bowl with the seasonings and drizzle with oil.
Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and spread french fries evenly on the baking sheet.
Bake fries for 20 minutes then gently flip fries over and bake for another 15 minutes until nice and golden.
Serve with your favorite dipping sauce!
