Slow Cooker BBQ Chicken

Slow Cooker BBQ Chicken – My super easy slow cooker (crockpot) bbq pulled chicken recipe is made with a delicious homemade sweet and slightly spicy barbecue sauce. Serve bbq chicken on buns for a delicious sandwich, on salads, flatbreads and more!

Ingredients you need for this recipe:

  • Chicken Thighs or Breasts – boneless, skinless
  • Apple Cider Vinegar
  • Paprika
  • Sriracha – or your favorite hot sauce.
  • Chili Powder
  • Mustard
  • Ketchup
  • Onion- yellow or white
  • Garlic
  • Water
  • Worcestershire Sauce
  • Butter

Tools to have on hand:

  • Slow Cooker/Crockpot
  • Small Saucepan
  • Spoon
  • Measuring Cups + Spoons

How to make slow cooker bbq chicken:

In a small saucepan, add finely chopped onion and butter. Cook over medium heat until onions are tender. Add minced garlic and cook another minute. Add remaining ingredients to the saucepan, except for the chicken, and bring to a low simmer. Simmer until sauce lightly thickens. Remove from heat.

Add chicken thighs/breasts to your slow cooker and pour barbecue sauce over the chicken (about 1 cup). Cook on low for 7-8 hours or on the high setting for 3-4 hours.

When finished, using two forks, lightly shred chicken. Enjoy!

Can I use bottled BBQ Sauce instead of making this barbecue sauce from scratch?

Yes! If you are on a time crunch or are not feeling up to making the sauce from scratch, please feel free to use your favorite bottled barbecue sauce.

Here are some easy side dishes I love serving with this bbq chicken:

  • Creamy Classic Coleslaw
  • Simple Mac and Cheese
  • Classic American Potato Salad
  • Simple Caesar Salad

Or you can get more creative!

What to make with slow cooker BBQ Chicken:

  • BBQ Chicken Pizza or Flatbread
  • Sandwiches – Layer chicken with coleslaw on toasty buns.
  • Quesadillas – Stuff flour tortillas with shredded bbq chicken and cheese.
  • Salads – Serve shredded lettuce, top with chicken, ranch dressing, fresh tomatoes, onion, avocado and tortilla chips.
  • Stuffed Sweet Potatoes – Baked sweet potatoes top with bbq chicken, chopped green onions, cheese and sour cream.
