    JUMP TO RECIPE

Bacon Western Cheeseburgers - Juicy quarter pound burger layered with melted sharp cheddar cheese, bacon, onion rings, barbecue sauce and mayonnaise on a toasty sesame brioche bun.

    WESTERN BACON CHEESEBURGER

We served our BBQ Bacon Western Cheeseburgers with a side of crispy onion rings. You can also serve them with French fries, a side salad, grilled veggies and more. I'll link a few burger side dish recipes for you below.

This recipe will make four burgers. If you are cooking for a larger crowd, simply double the recipe.

Notes on Ingredients for Bacon Western Cheeseburgers:

Ground Beef - We use lean 90/10 ground beef in this recipe. 85/15 fat ratio would also be great. The leaner the beef, the less your burgers will shrink while cooking.

Bacon - A good quality thick cut bacon goes great on these burgers.

Onion Rings - To make things easy, we use frozen onion rings in this recipe.

Cheddar Cheese - Quality sharp cheddar cheese is best. If you prefer melted American cheese on your burgers, that would also be extremely tasty!

Hamburger Buns - We use sesame seed brioche hamburger buns. You can use your favorite type of hamburger buns.

Barbecue Sauce - We use "Kinder's" brand hickory brown sugar barbecue sauce in this recipe. This barbecue sauce is on the slightly sweeter side. You can use your favorite barbecue sauce or what you have on hand.

Mayonnaise - The mayo adds a delicious creamy flavor which compliments the tangy barbecue sauce perfectly.

Hamburger Patty Seasoning - Salt + Black Pepper + Garlic Powder + Worcestershire Sauce.

    Tools to have on hand:

    • Grill - To grill your burgers on and to lightly toast the buns.
    • Skillet - For cooking your bacon.

How To Make Bacon Western Cheeseburgers:

Cook onion rings according to package instructions.

While the onion rings cook, prepare bacon on a large skillet over medium-high heat until nice and crisp. When done, transfer to a paper towel.

Divide ground beef into four burger patties. Be careful not to overwork the meat. Season patties with salt, black pepper, garlic powder and Worcestershire sauce on both sides.

Heat your grill to medium-high heat. Once hot, add ground beef patties. Cook burgers for about 4-6 minutes on each side depending on your preferred doneness level. Add cheddar cheese slices and melt.

Lightly toast the buns cut side down on your grill.

To assemble burgers, spread mayo on buns followed by barbecue sauce. Top with your cheeseburger patty, bacon, and onion rings. Serve with your favorite side dishes. Enjoy!

    Frequently Asked Questions:

What goes on a Western Bacon Cheeseburger?

A juicy burger patty with melted cheddar cheese, crispy strips of bacon, onion rings, mayonnaise and barbecue sauce on toasty buns.

    How to store leftover burgers?

Store leftover burgers disassembled in an airtight container in the fridge for up to two days. This will prevent the burger buns from getting soggy and will make it easier to reheat.
