This recipe serves 4 people giving each person about 2 short ribs. If you are cooking for a large crowd, you can easily double this recipe. Short ribs make amazing leftovers! Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 days. Reheat on the stove in a covered skillet with a few tablespoons of water over medium heat until hot.

Ingredients you need to make Grilled Flanken Cut Short Ribs:

Flanken Cut Short Ribs – You’ll need about two pounds of flanken cut short ribs. Depending on the thickness of the ribs, this should give you about 6-8.

Soy Sauce – Low sodium is recommended in this recipe to prevent your ribs from becoming salty.

Garlic – Fresh garlic cloves are best.

Fresh Ginger – Fresh ginger is best in this recipe.

Brown Sugar – Light or dark brown sugar both work great in this recipe.

Rice Vinegar – If you don’t have rice vinegar, you can also use white wine vinegar.

Sesame Oil – Sesame oil adds a delicious flavor to the ribs.

Sesame Seeds – An optional garnish for the ribs.

Green Onions – Freshly chopped green onions make a delicious garnish.

Tools to have on hand:

  • Mixing Bowls – To mix the marinade and a large mixing bowl to marinate the short ribs.
  • Whisk – For whisking the marinade together.
  • Measuring Spoons – To properly measure all of your ingredients.
  • Grill – To grill the short ribs.
  • Tongs – For turning the short ribs while grilling.

How to grill the best Flanken Cut Short Ribs:

Begin by whisking soy sauce, brown sugar, vinegar, garlic, ginger and sesame oil in a small bowl.

Add short ribs to a large deep bowl or to a large storage bag. Pour marinade over short ribs and mix to fully coat the ribs. Place in the fridge to marinade for 2+ hours up to overnight.

Remove ribs from the fridge 30 minutes prior to grilling.

Heat your grill to medium-high heat. Place ribs on the grill and cook for about 4 minutes until browned, flip over and cook an additional 3 minutes.

Serve with your favorite side dishes! Enjoy!
