Oven BBQ Pulled Pork – Mouthwatering delicious pulled pork recipe cooked low and slow in the oven. Tossed with bbq sauce and served on toasty buns with coleslaw and pickles.

JUMP TO RECIPE

First, the pork is marinated overnight, then cooked in the oven on low heat, and finally slathered in yummy barbecue sauce. I used my Chipotle BBQ Sauce recipe, but you can use your favorite BBQ sauce! I served the pulled pork on a warm bun with coleslaw and pickles. It was absolutely scrumptious!

Ingredients you need to make Oven BBQ Pulled Pork:

Pork Roast – You’ll need about a two pound pork butt or shoulder roast.

Mustard – I used yellow mustard but you can also use dijon or grainy mustard.

Apple Cider Vinegar – This will help to tenderize the pork while marinating. You can also use regular distilled vinegar if you don’t have apple cider vinegar.

Paprika – Adds a delicious spice to the pork while marinating.

Brown Sugar – You may use light or dark brown sugar in this recipe. Both work great!

Salt & Pepper – To season the pork.

Water – You’ll need 1/4 cup water to pour into the dutch oven while cooking to prevent pork from drying out.

Oil – To sear the roast prior to cooking in the oven.

BBQ Sauce – You’ll need about one cup barbecue sauce to toss shredded pork in prior to serving. You can use your favorite recipe or bottled sauce. I used my super delicious Chipotle BBQ Sauce recipe!

Tools to have on hand for this recipe:

Dutch Oven – To cook the pork roast in.

Cast Iron Skillet – To sear the pork roast on. You can also use the dutch oven you are baking the pork in but I like the crust a cart iron skillet gives.

Measuring Cups + Spoons – For properly measuring all of your ingredients.

Tongs – For turning pork while searing.

Forks – To shred pork prior to serving.

How to make the most delicious tender Oven BBQ Pulled Pork:

In a small bowl, mix together apple cider vinegar, mustard, paprika, brown sugar, salt and pepper. Place pork roast in a large bag or storage container and pour mixture on pork tossing to fully coat. Transfer pork to the fridge to marinate for at least 2 hours up to overnight.

Preheat oven to 300 degrees.

Pull pork out of the fridge about 20 minutes prior to searing. Heat 1 tbsp of oil over high heat in a dutch oven. Once the oil is very hot, sear pork on all sides for about 30 seconds to a minute. Then remove from heat.

Transfer pork to a dutch oven or oven safe dish. Pour 1/4 cup of water around the pork. Place oven safe lid on top of your dutch oven (you can also use foil).

Transfer to preheated oven and cook for about 3 hours until pork is fork tender.

When done, pork should shred very easily with two forks. Add bbq sauce to the pulled pork and mix combine.

Serve pulled pork on warm buns with coleslaw and pickles or however you’d like! Enjoy!

Side dishes that pair perfectly with Oven Pulled Pork:

Shoestring Fries – Thin and crispy baked shoestring french fries make for a delicious side dish or appetizer! Serve with your favorite fry sauces.

Baked Potato Wedges – Seasoned potato wedges baked to golden perfection are the perfect appetizer or side dish. Serve with your favorite dipping sauces!

Simple Mac and Cheese – Super easy and creamy macaroni and cheese recipe. Making a delicious mac and cheese at home from scratch has never been easier! This is the perfect side dish recipe and also a fun kid friendly meal!
