Salisbury Steak Recipe - A 50/50 blend of ground beef and ground turkey patties seasoned, seared and cooked to perfection. Topped with my homemade mushroom and onion gravy for the perfect Salisbury Steak dish you will love.

My Salisbury Steak Recipe is one of our go-to dinners in our house. The end result is a tender, flavorful, mouthwatering dish you are going to love! Using half ground turkey will also make this dish lighter than using all beef.
I love using a combination of ground turkey and ground beef in my recipes. Ground beef can sometimes be too greasy and ground turkey is sometimes too soft and tender to hold together like ground beef does.
Using both gives you the best of both worlds. Of course, you can use all ground beef or all ground turkey in this recipe as well.
Ingredients you need to make my Salisbury Steak Recipe:
Ground Beef + Ground Turkey - We used a 50/50 blend of lean ground beef and ground turkey. You can use all ground beef or all ground turkey in this recipe if you prefer.
Yellow Mustard - We used yellow mustard in the salisbury steaks and in the gravy.
Ketchup - We will use ketchup in the patty mixture as well as in the gravy.
Worcestershire Sauce - Used in the gravy and in the patties.
Parsley - Fresh chopped parsley is best in this recipe but you can also use dried parsley as well. If using dried, cut amount in half. We will use parsley in the patties and as garnish at the end.
Butter - Salted or unsalted butter will both work great in this recipe.
Brown Sugar - You will only need one teaspoon for the patty mixture.
Mushrooms - We used baby portobello mushrooms in our gravy, but you can also use white mushroom as well.
Red Onion - You will need one half of a red onion for the gravy. Yellow or white onion may also be used as a substitute.
Beef Broth - One 15 ounce can of beef broth will be needed in this recipe, or equivalent to 1 ¾ cups beef broth. In a pinch, chicken broth may be used as well.
Cornstarch - We will use cornstarch to thicken the gravy. As a substitute, all-purpose flour may be used.
Red Wine Vinegar - The vinegar is used when cooking down the onions and mushrooms. In a pinch, you may substitute for white wine vinegar.
Salt - I prefer Himalayan or sea salt but you can use your favorite cooking salt.
Black Pepper - Fresh cracked or ground black pepper will work great. Used to season the sauce and meat.
Breadcrumbs - I used Japanese panko breadcrumbs in this recipe, but you can use your favorite plain breadcrumbs.
Tools to have on hand for my Salisbury Steak Recipe:
Cutting Board + Chef Knife - For prepping veggies prior to cooking.
Large Skillet - To cook the salisbury steaks and gravy in.
Measuring Cups + Spoons - To properly measure all of your ingredients.
Meat Thermometer - Must have kitchen tool to check proper temperature on the steaks.

How to make Salisbury Steak:
In a large mixing bowl, combine all ingredients for Salisbury Steak patties. Divide mixture into 6 balls and gently flatten to form patties.
Heat your skillet over medium heat and add 1 tablespoon butter. Once the skillet is hot, add patties to the pan. Cover and cook for about 5 minutes until bottoms are brown. Flip patties over, cover and cook for another 5 minutes until internal temperature is at least 165 degrees. Remove patties from pan and transfer to plate.
For the gravy: In the same pan, add butter, mushrooms, onions, red wine vinegar and Worcestershire sauce. Cover and cook for several minutes until onions and mushrooms are soft and caramelized.
Add salt, pepper, ketchup, mustard and beef broth to the mushroom mixture and bring to a low simmer for several minutes until broth lightly thickens. Spoon some broth into a small bowl and mix in cornstarch. Stir mixture into the gravy.
Add salisbury steak patties back to the pan and spoon gravy on top. Cover and let patties heat back up in the gravy.
Serve with a sprinkle of fresh chopped parsley (optional). Enjoy!
